Joining SGBA is an excellent way of getting out on the River Dart to enjoy the wonderful boating it has to offer. The Association also organises an active RYA training & social programme on and off the water.

Benefits of Membership:

  • Access to the clubhouse including the clubroom (where you can unwind with a cuppa and enjoy one of the best views on the Dart), and changing rooms/toilets/showers.
  • Use of the club's fleet of sailing dinghies, day sailers, kayaks, Canadian canoes, SUPs and rowing boat - both at events and privately (booked via our online booking system).
  • Use of two club powerboats when not required for safety boat or course duties, subject to suitable qualifications - for a fee per day / half day to cover fuel and contribute towards maintenance. Full details here.
  • Access to RYA training courses in first aid, VHF, sailing and powerboats.
  • Invitations to SGBA events throughout the year.
  • Opportunities to join up with other members for informal sailing or boating trips and social events.
  • Storage facilities for dinghies, tenders, kayaks and canoes for an annual fee (subject to availability).

Joining SGBA:

Click the "Apply for membership" button at the bottom of the screen. Have the following details ready:

  1. Decide whether you wish to join as a family (£130), as joint membership (£120), as an individual (£105), or as a youth member (£40).
  2. The membership year runs from 1st March. New members joining between 30th September and end of February will be charged the standard annual fee, but this will automatically include the first full membership year (effectively gaining the winter months membership for free). The amounts of the membership subscriptions for the coming season are published in December. If you join before the coming seasons rates are published you are charged the rate for the season just ending / ended. If you join after the coming seasons rates are published you are charged the new rate.
  3. The names, email, mobile telephone number and home address of all adults in your membership. For family membership supply the names and dates of birth of children. If you wish to provide dates of birth for adults it will help us ensure we are catering for all age groups.
  4. Whether you are applying to rent a space for a dinghy, kayak, canoe, tender, or outboard engine, or to rent a locker (there are waiting lists for some of these). If there is no available space you will be added to the relevant waiting list and wont be charged the annual storage fee(s) for the storage applied for.
    Any questions email membership@sgba.org.uk

Once you have joined we will arrange to meet you and show you the club facilities and provide safety information. If you have paid for annual boat use you will then be able to book and take out club boats. Please read the details on the SGBA boat section.

Please Note:

  • SGBA has no car parking facilities. You can park at the public Millpool car park, but there is a £6 charge and the car park fills up quickly in the summer. Alternative parking may be found in the village, a short walk away. NB: There is no member vehicle access along the foreshore to the clubhouse or dinghy park.
  • Please remember buoyancy aids must be worn at all times when using any SGBA club boat (including SUP's) and all club boat use must be booked in advance via the website.
