Weather
Wind, weather and tides are crucial to any boating trip, especially in Stoke Gabriel where the creek dries at low water on spring tides. Before planning any trip check the tides and weather and always use the river within your capabilities.
The wind in our section of the river can vary considerably from the forecast direction and strength. Use the forecast as a guide but check local conditions before setting out. Be aware that the wind in the river tends to be more gusty and variable than the wind at the coast.
Everyone has their favourite online weather forecaster. The SGBA does not endorse any website in particular, but you might want to try one of these:
- The Met Office
- BBC Weather
- BBC Shipping Forecast
- Metcheck UK
- AccuWeather
- The Weather Channel
- Weather Online
- XC Weather (wind observations)
- Wind Guru
If you plan to go out to sea, and wish to see the weather, sea and wind conditions in Start Bay, use the
Froward Point Coastwatch Station website and webcam and the wave buoy in Start Bay
