The Junior Sailing Course provides dinghy sail training for children aged 9-14 years at Mill Point, Stoke Gabriel. It is organised by and for members of the SGBA.

Courses are designed to be fun. Children are encouraged to work towards their RYA Level 1 to 4 dinghy sailing certificates, which can be awarded at the end of the course.

All the instructors on the course are RYA trained and accredited Dinghy Instructors or Assistant Instructors. It is a requirement that parents will volunteer to help make the course a success, as Assistant Instructors, rescue boat crew or shore based helpers. This enables us to keep the cost of the courses well below commercial rates.

  1. Parents must confirm that the child:
    1. Is a confident swimmer and can swim at least 50 yards without a buoyancy aid.
    2. Will wear buoyancy (to at least BS EN 393:50N), appropriate footwear and suitable clothing such as a wetsuit and waterproofs.
  2. You accept that whilst all reasonable care will be taken by the instructors, safety boat crews and other persons involved in the Course, there remains an element of risk in sailing and water related activities. You therefore accept the limitations of the SGBA's liability for sailing activities and that it cannot accept responsibility for any loss, damage or injury suffered by persons and/or their property arising out of or during the course of their activities whilst training and/or coaching and/or instructing unless such injury, loss or damage was caused by, or agreeresulted from, negligence or deliberate act.
  3. You understand that SGBA's supervisory responsibility for your child commences when they are signed in on the Attendance Register at the beginning of a training session and ceases when they are signed out the Attendance Register at the end of the training session. Supervision outside these times cannot be undertaken.
  4. COVID-19 Update: Whilst it is our intention to maintain social distancing whenever possible there may be situations when the instructor or safety boat crew may have to recover a child and lift them into a Safety Boat. There are alternative approaches for rendering assistance, and so this will be a last resort.
  5. The Junior Sailing Course is always an ideal opportunity to take lots of photographs for both parents and the club. Often the photographs are published on the SGBA website and in the SGBA Newsletter and local press.
  6. If anyone objects to their child being photographed and/or published (as above) please inform the organiser of the course, prior to the course commencing.
  7. The Junior Sailing Course use email/Whats App as the main forms of communication between co-ordinators, volunteers and parents. We will never share your email address or mobile number with outside agencies or commercial organisations.
  8. Please send details of any medical conditions, allergies or medication to the organisers together with emergency contact names and telephone numbers.
