Foreshore Vehicle Access, April 2024

SGBA members have no vehicle access to the Stoke Gabriel foreshore, except for a one week period at the beginning of the annual sailing season and one at the end of the season to move their boats or equipment, as set out in our planning consent.

We have notified Stoke Gabriel Parish Council (SGPC) of the date we have set for members' vehicle access for the beginning of the 2024 sailing season as: Sunday 14 April to Saturday 20 April inclusive.

Over this one week period, members will be allowed to access the foreshore with a vehicle to move boats and associated equipment, if you notify commodore@sgba.org.uk in advance.

However, SGPC remain concerned about the safety of other foreshore users and to ensure that no undue risks are posed to the foreshore environment, so please consider the following points:

  • If you are able to float your boat to the Quay Slipway instead of driving along the foreshore, this would be preferable.
  • Consider the state of the tide for when you require access.
  • Drive with caution and consideration for the safety of other foreshore users - at no more than brisk walking pace (5mph). Pedestrians have priority over vehicles at all times.
  • Vehicles should not be on the foreshore for longer than 30 minutes.
  • Consideration must be given to the agreed SGBA environmental Code of Practice.
  • Your vehicle should not access the foreshore if it has been used in another body of water (lake, river, sea etc) in the last 24 hours (48 hours in wet weather conditions).
  • Restrictions on vehicle access to the foreshore also apply to contractors or commercial suppliers who may be engaged by members to service, repair, deliver or retrieve boats or equipment or similar activities.
