Oh What a Season!

Published 19:15 on 22 Dec 2025

As the end of the year looms we though it was worth reflecting on the jam-packed 2025 season st SGBA, both on and off the water, with lots of highlights worth a mention.

As the weather became warmer we had Junior Sailing in May, July and August, Adult Dinghy and Power boat courses, School Taster sessions in September and of course our fantastic SGBA Regatta and Middleback Cricket. Plenty of members have been out on the water sailing, racing and paddling with their own tales to tell. Our Junior racers have had lots fun and successes at the RS Tera National Championships in Paignton, Sailability, Dartmouth Regatta, RDYC Autumn Leaves, strengthening our collaboration with other Clubs and further afield, as our homegrown sailors attend national and world events. We are grateful to our more experienced membership and instructor team who have nurtured these youngsters as they grow their skills.

2025 has also seen the Club train up 5 new Assistant Instructors, 4 new Dinghy Instructors and 6 Senior Instructors, as well as 24 adults and 95 juniors on our many dinghy courses, 58 on power boat and safety boat courses as well as another 14 on shore based courses.

The social side of the Club has been thriving too with the Mill Pond Challenge, Bryan's now legendary BBQs after Sunday sailing, and other events. We hosted our SGBA Adult and Junior awards in November with worthy recipients to celebrate those making stand out contributions this year. Not to be deterred by the November weather 28 took to the water following the awards for some fun racing.

The Club could not do anything without the help of all the volunteers who help keep the Club running, manage the facilities, provide safety boat cover, turn out for working parties, maintain the boats, support our courses, organise refreshments and so much more - a huge thank you to all our members who have done their bit for the Club this year.

Over the Winter we have a series of events planned to keep in touch, racing will continue most weekends and works to accommodate the new pontoon will underway soon - more details on this to follow including details on how members can access Club facilities during this time.

Santa will be making his traditional visit to Stoke Gabriel by boat on Christmas Eve, not to be missed!

We wish all our members and the wider community a very Happy Christmas and all good wishes for the New Year.
