Junior Race Training - goes racing

With light winds on Saturday it was never going to be the best day to go sailing. However the juniors were making the most of the light breeze in two venues:
- At Stoke Gabriel the race training continued with Lasers chasing each other around the cans. Both long and very short courses gave them the chance to practice boat handling and co-ordinate their starting.
- In Torquay the Junior SW Regional Championships were taking place with four of our junior members taking part.
Torquay: Junior SW Regional Championships
Edith & Hattie Phillips, Amelie Hammond and Tom Smith were all involved in the two day regatta. With improving results from all four unfolding as the weekend progressed.
Hattie started to shine in the Rookie Fleet where racing wasn't the only item on the agenda - fun certainly was !
Amelie's first racing event gave her great experience that really started to show through as she improved her results throughout the weekend.
Edith shone in the Regatta Fleet finishing 4th overall after eight qualifying races with two first places in the last two races.
There was little improvement for Tom after the first couple of races because there is no better than two firsts. With four more races to follow defending his lead was going to be hard ... but he did and was dully crowned Junior SW Regional Champion in the Topper 4.2 fleet.
A very WELL DONE to all our juniors. I'm sure your efforts will inspire others to join in next time.
