RYA Powerboat Courses Now Available

Are you interested in honing your powerboat prowess, and equipping yourself with the skills required to act as a safety boat helm?

SGBA are now offering the 2-day RYA Safety Boat Training course at a reduced cost of only £120.

Two dates ( 16/17 May & 11/12 July) have been put on the calendar and are now open for bookings. More dates may become available dependent on popularity.

For many members the ability to drive the club safety boats has been extremely worthwhile. Our volunteers for Sunday sailing, Junior Sailing Courses and various other events have been invaluable. As well as vitally enabling us to run these kinds of events, safety boat duties also provide excellent experience for club members looking to use our powerboats and get more involved at SGBA. However, we still on occasion struggle to fill club duties; we hope that offering RYA Safety Boat courses at such a reduced price will help alleviate that issue.

The course is two days in length, and mainly practical. It will teach you the skills needed to act as a safety boat, coach boat, or escort craft.
Designed for boats accompanying a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers, or canoes, the course will cover activities including casual boating, racing coaching, and training activities.

The course will be taught with a ratio of (6:1) students to instructor. You will also learn advanced boat handling, as well as rescue techniques for dinghies, windsurfers, canoes and towing.

This course is currently available to active SGBA members with a Powerboat Level 2 (PB2) qualification. You can sign up now by logging in to our online Calendar.
